Philipp Kohlschreiber may have been the surprise winner of the 2008 Heineken Open but he has now amassed an impressive record in Auckland. Of his seven appearances here, he has reached the semifinals once, the quarterfinals four times and of course won the title in 2008.
Last year he captured his third ATP title in Halle in June. Earlier in the year he beat world No. 4 Robin Soderling to advance to the third round in Indian Wells.
Kohlschreiber reached the quarterfinals in Munich and he also went 2-2 in singles rubbers to help Germany win the ATP World Team Championship in Dusseldorf.
