Last year was a great 12 months for the 20-year-old Latvian, who won her first title and beat several top 10 players as well.
She triumphed at Estoril in Portugal with a first round win over the top seed Agnes Szavay and then beating Arantxa Parra Santonja in the final.
There was a semifinal appearance at Monterrey after she beat world No9 Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the tournament. Four times she was a quarterfinalist in WTA events, including the US$4.5million Beijing event where Sevastova accounted for Sam Stosur and Nadia Petrova before falling to Li Na. The other quarterfinals were at Strasbourg, Budapest and Bad Gasten.
In previous years she had made one quarterfinal – Guangzhou in 2009 as a teenager. Sevastova has been a regular member of the Latvian Fed Cup team since 2005.
It is her first appearance in the main draw at the ASB Classic.
