Billed as the next big thing in French tennis a couple of years ago, Alize Cornet is a precocious talent who has struggled to live up to expectations since reaching the cusp of the top ten as a teenager.
Ranked 50 at the ASB Classic a year ago, Cornet struggled throughout much of 2010. Her best result was reaching the semi finals in Fes and Bad Gastein and quarterfinals appearances here in Auckland, Monterrey and Budapest.
Her breakthrough season was 2008 where on her favourite surface clay, she reached the semifinals or better six times before winning her first singles title at Budapest.
Her breakthrough season was 2008 where on her favourite surface clay, she reached the semifinals or better six times before winning her first singles title at Budapest.
Cornet will be looking to rediscover that form at the ASB Classic.
She’s currently without a coach and travels with her mum Patricia.
Cornet was the 2007 Roland Garros junior champion.
