Defending Champion to pull out of Heineken Open 2009
Philipp Kohlschreiber's shoulder still causes problems
Today tournament director Richard Palmer was forced to accompany fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber to the press where the latter had to announce his retirement from this years Heineken Open.
After yesterdays almost epic match against Juan Carlos Ferrero from spain, where Kohlschreiber had to go full distance in three sets to finally win 6-4 4-6 7-6(5) he said he had a bad and painful night. Though he underwent medical treatment in order to make it onto court, he still did not feel well enough in todays warm up. "The shoulder hurt with every stroke I hit" said the disappointed German, "I took heavy painkillers all the way and this can't be the solution." However he would not comment on a possible participation at the Australian Open in Melbourne as he will continue to undergo treatment in Auckland.
