2009 Heineken Open Summary First Day Of Qualifying

The 2009 Heineken Open qualifying draw starting Saturday 10 January is one of the toughest ever with 10 players ranked inside the top-100 in the world.

First day of Qualifying at Heineken Open is finished seeing GD Jones from NZL win in two straight sets 6-2 6-1. His oponent Spanish Miguel Angel Lopez Jaen currently stands over 400 places higher in ATP Tour Rankings, which proves the significance of this win. Todays second striking result is that Gilles Muller upset former top ten player Nicolas Massu from Chile easy with 6-3 6-3. Unfortunately no other Kiwi-player managed to surprise. The closest to victory was Adam Thompson who won the first set in a tie breaker 7-6(5) before he had to give in to Rohan Bopanna from India winnig two consecutive sets with 6-2 6-3.
